What “omelettes” means
Wiktionary · Wikipediaomelettes
- nounA dish made with beaten eggs cooked in a frying pan without stirring, flipped over to cook on both sides, and sometimes filled or topped with cheese, chives or other foodstuffs.
An omelette is a dish made from beaten eggs fried with butter or oil. Unlike scrambled eggs, they are cooked undisturbed so that they set into a continuous disk. In Europe, omelettes are often folded around a filling such as herbs, cheese, alliums, cured meats, mushrooms, other vegetables, and smoked salmon. Some flavorings, notably herbs and alliums, may be mixed into the beaten eggs before cooking.
